Cassie Greenberg is an artist. She loves to create, but she can't make a living from it - not many people like the combination of painting and trash installations. She dreams of teaching fine art, and takes on all possible part-time jobs, but is still very limited in her finances. By chance, Cassie finds an advert for a cosy apartment in a luxury neighbourhood in Chicago for just $200 a month. The price, the conditions - it's too good to be true. There is definitely a catch, she is convinced. The new flatmate, Frederick J. Fitzwilliam, is very strange. He sleeps during the day, goes out at night on business, and talks as if he has stepped out of a nineteenth-century love story. He leaves notes for Cassie, takes an interest in her work, and asks her how her day was. On top of that, Frederick is breathtakingly handsome.
